September 13th, 2007 -- Louden Noxious on
middle names, punk music, and upcoming
Kaiju happenings.
Louden Noxious helped facilitate the
Anime Songwriting Workshop at Anime Boston and is the true
musical genius behind all things anime related. The presence
of Kaiju characters at the event undoubtedly had an impact
on what the participants wrote about.
ASW: So,
thanks for taking the time to do this interview,
Louden. Or is it Mr.
Noxious? Which do you prefer?
LN: Feel free to call me
"Uncle Louden." I think of myself
as everyone's crazy uncle that they never had.
I'm also known as "The Godfather of
Noxiousness."
ASW: Do
you have a middle name?
LN: My middle name is
"Danger." It can happen.
ASW: It says you have a
120dB voice, and I know your beatbox skills are second to
none! Have you ever considered a solo music career?
LN: My muscial career is well
documented. I first garnered fame in the punk band
"Tiny Tim & the Crutch Huggers." After our
epic break-up, Snot Nozkid formed his own outfit and I
formed my current band "Poison Ivy
League." We have a myspace
page, check it out.
ASW: The song Secret
Ninja Academy was pretty wild! Pirates, monsters, lawyers
and a treasure map on the chef's you-know-where… Any
personal interpretation as to the true meaning of the song?
LN: Ninjas are VERY private people. It
seems that most ninja academys are out in the open, right on
the highway and everything! This academay is exactly as it
should be, SECRET! Whether monster, lawyer, pirate or even
BEAV, as long as you possess "The Treasure Map"
(the dream that is in your heart) then you can be anything,
ninja, chef, or punk rocker! I'm sure we could use some of the graduates in Kaiju Big Battel, the
hero team is very short-handed right now.
ASW: Are
there any Kaiju heroes or minions that have any
hidden musical talents?
LN: Well, Beav has been taking triangle
lessons for a year now. So far the only song he knows is
"Secret Ninja Academy".
ASW: I ask
this of all our interviewees – What's the most
crazy and awesome thing you've ever seen at a
con?
LN: Hands down it had to be the live
and public murder of Pablo Plantain in May of 2006.
But Steam Powered Tenticle Boulder getting in Dr. Cube's
face this year was definitely a highlight for me.
ASW: Now to
put you on the spot – What's the most crazy
and awesome thing you've ever done at a con? If
you can only pick one…
LN: Meeting Space Ghost. He's one of my
heroes.
ASW: What's
the latest Kaiju word on the street? Any
upcoming Battels on the brink of Kaiju history?
LN: BIG NEWS! just announced; a LIVE
Kaiju Big Battel in New York City!! Friday, November 9th @
the Warsaw in Brooklyn! This one will be huge!! It's our
first show in NYC in over a year!
ASW: Thanks
again for your time. Anything else you'd like to
share with the fans and musicians of Anime
Workshop?
LN: If you are a fan of Manga or Anime,
I recommend checking out the artist Osama Tezuka. He was the
greatest of all time, he did Astro Boy and Kimba the White
Lion and HUNDREDS of books. I just think if kids today are
so into anime and manga like Naruto and Inhayusha, which are
great, but they should see where it all came from and read
the works of one of comic book historiess greatest artists!
